BIO / STATEMENT
emily wolfer was born in salem, oregon, at eleven
a.m. on a sunday, august of 1984. she grew up
playing in closets, listening to music under the
covers, building forts, digging for worms and
skinning knees on concrete. she attended the
pacific northwest college of art in portland,
oregon, and walked with her b.f.a. in 2007.
the photographs are not landscape, still-life,
journalistic nor staged. they are descriptions
of home, solitude and identity. wolfer shoots
lasers from her eyes and cheap film from her
broken minoltas.
the videos, particularly stop-motion, use
the small, the overlooked and the unnoticeable
to answer the question what if….?
wolfer currently wakes up, rides her bike, drinks
and gets into trouble in williamsburg, new york.
